Chinese visa applications require a 33×48 mm color photo on a plain white background, taken within the last 6 months, head and shoulders visible, neutral expression with no smile.
Head height (chin to crown) should be 28–33 mm. No glasses (since 2016), no head covering, no jewelry that obstructs the face.
For the online China Visa Application Service Center upload, a 354×472 px JPG between 40 KB and 120 KB is required.

Why not 35×45 mm like everyone else?
China standardised on 33×48 mm in the 2000s and never changed. Use the China-specific preset below.
Background — white or light blue?
Plain white only. Light blue is the older spec for Chinese ID cards, not visas.
Glasses?
No. Banned for all Chinese visa photos since 2016.
