A 3000×2000 px photo is huge on screen but only 10×6.7 inches at 300 DPI — about 25×17 cm. The same photo at 150 DPI prints fine at 20×13 inches but starts to look soft up close.
Standard DPI values: 72 (web/screen, legacy), 150 (large posters, viewed from distance), 300 (high-quality print: brochures, photos, magazines), 600 (line art, fine engravings).
Use the tool below to crop to a specific print size at 300 DPI. The format `mm` lets you pick exact print dimensions and the editor handles the pixel math.
FAQ
What DPI do I need for a passport photo?
300 DPI minimum. The tool defaults to 300 for all passport presets.
Is 72 DPI enough for the web?
DPI is irrelevant on screen — only pixel dimensions matter. 72 is a legacy convention from print.
Can I increase DPI without quality loss?
You can change the metadata flag, but you cannot add real detail. Re-shoot at higher resolution.
