For a sharp glossy print, you want at least 300 DPI. That means a 4×6 inch print needs 1200×1800 px, an 8×10 needs 2400×3000, an A4 (210×297 mm) needs 2480×3508, and a 24×36 inch poster needs 7200×10800.

For posters viewed from 1–2 meters away, 150 DPI is plenty. So a 24×36" poster can print acceptably from 3600×5400 px.

The tool below lets you crop to exact mm or inch dimensions and exports at 300 DPI metadata.
